Something About Me

My name is Brett Kittrell. I am a 19 year old Physical Education student at the University of South Alabama. I realized that teaching and coaching was what I wanted to do when I was 17. There are a lot of things about teaching that interest me, but coaching, football in particular is what I really want to do. The impact my coaches had on me was vital to me, and I want to have the same kind of impact on others. I am on track to graduate in the Spring of 2011. I desire to get my Master's degree in Sports Administration or something similar.

Education of the Physical

As a P.E. teacher it is my desire to teach students about their bodies, its function, nutrition, proper diet, proper exercise and other important facts that will help them live a healthier life. In my opinion, today's society is lacking knowledge in a lot of these areas, hence the high obesity rate that has been reported in our country. It has been my desire to be a difference maker in young peoples lives. I feel that by giving the necessary information to make adjustments that will help them live a healthier and happier life is the best that I feel I can accomplish that goal. I know that I will not see instant results and success in the majority of my students, but I feel that as long as I do what I am able to do to help them then I will have a sense of satisfaction.

Integrate Technology

Technology is booming in today's world. Technology has so much to offer for teachers of every subject, including physical education. I want to be someone that uses his resources wisely. I want to be the best teacher I can be, and I think that being up to date in the teaching technology field will help me accomplish that. The means of technology for use in physical education are plentiful. I have heard many ways in which teachers use technology from my professors, but it will be imperative for me to develop my own uses and continue to try and expand my knowledge in this specific area.

Be A Role Model

I want to be someone that my students and athletes can come to when they need help. I want them to be able to come to me and talk about problems and issues they are facing in their life. I feel like part of being a teacher is also being somewhat of a counselor, and I think that this aspect is very important and somewhat overlooked. I know that I had coaches that I would talk to and ask advice from. My coaches were helpful and wanted to be a part of my life. Part of who I am today I owe to my coaches for advice they gave me years ago. I want to be a teacher that lives a life that reflects the things that I say I live for. I want people to see a difference in the way I live my life, and ask me what is different about me.

Teach and Reward Hard Work

I have always been a believer of you get out of something what you put into it. There is a strong sense of apathy in high school today. No different than it was when I was in school. One of the biggest thing I got out of athletics was hard work. There is sense of pride when you earn something due to your hard work. When you see results of your effort you feel a sense of accomplishment. Whether your reward is more playing time during the season, a starting position or a good grade in the class room. I want my students and athletes to work hard. I want to challenge them to do their best and encourage them to do better. I never want to put a ceiling on a students abilities.

Hands On Learning

I want to give my students every opportunity to be hands on in the subjects we are learning about. I feel that the best way for students to learn and respect the material is to see it first hand. I think that in the field of Physical Education that I will have plenty of opportunities for my students to experience this kind of learning.
